AFTER KAWARTHA-HALIBURTON CAS. v. MW: EVIDENCE ON SUMMARY JUDGMENT MOTIONS

The recent Ontario Court of Appeal decision of Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Aid Society v. M.W. (18 April 2019) has established important new guidelines for summary judgment motions in child protection cases. It is mandatory reading for all family law and child protection counsel.

Back by popular demand, leading family and child protection law expert Professor Rollie Thompson will address evidence in summary judgment motions in light of this important decision, including a refresher on hearsay and trial worthy evidence. There may even be a test in the form of “short snapper” problems. Attendance will ensure a passing grade and an entertaining evening.

This program features Chair Justice Brian Weagant and speaker Professor D.A. Rollie Thompson Q.C. Professor of Law, Schulich School of Law, Dalhousie University.
